7/8/09- TEN AVAILABLE IN PENN!
Elite Stables is taking advantage of Pennsylvania's lucrative breeding program.
Everyone has heard about the troubles Kentucky racing is having. Churchill Downs is only running four days a week, and other Kentucky tracks like Ellis Park may shut down after this year. Purses are down across the board, and owners and trainers are struggling just to get by. However that is not the case with Pennsylvania.
Purses have been increasing in Pennsylvania for the last several years. They now rival major racing states like New York, and owners and trainers are starting to take notice. Elite Stable's management saw this trend taking place and we have been running and winning in Pennsylvania for years. However its not just the purses that makes Pennsylvania so attractive, its the breeding incentives. That is why we are excited about our ten very well bred weanlings.
In the spring of last year we sent our ten best mares to Pin Oak lane farm in Pennsylvania. By doing so, Elite Stables has now positioned itself to make Pennsylvania's already big purses even bigger. The trick is in the arithmetic. When one of our PA bred foals runs in the keystone state it will eligible for bonus money. Lets say the purse is 50k. If it wins, instead of getting 30k we would get 30k plus another 12k (40% of purse money won) in bonus because the horse is Pennsylvania bred. In addition we are eligible for another 30% bonus as the breeder. Obviously it doesn't take long for that kind of money to add up.
Elite Stables has had success w/ its only other PA Bred winning almost 200k. So its easy to see why these babies are so valuable. In the coming months decisions will be made on what horses will be available for sale or syndication. In the mean time, feel free to contact us if you have any questions about these exciting prospects.
Speaking of state breds, our little California bred HOT N' DUSTY had her stakes debut on Saturday June 27th at Holly wood Park. She just missed getting Grade 1 stakes placed in the 300k Vanity Handicap against the undefeated Zenyatta. She is owned in a partnership w/ LRF, and should make her next start against allowance foes on July 11th. It won't be long before she garners some black type

: HADAVISION
The team of Randall Van Dyke, Gary Sadowski, and trainer Nick Canani had a vision that a filly named Hadavison was worth her $30,000 claiming price. Were they ever right.
Hadavision, campaigned in the name of Van Dyke's Elite Stables, scored her biggest win yet April 19 when she captured the Peach Blossom Stakes at Delaware Park in her first added-money try. In her three other starts for the outfit, she sports another win, plus a second and a fourth.
Hadavison was claimed in June of last year at Churchill in her first start and raced through September. The Peach Blossom was her first race of 2008.
Mark Shuman is the current conditioner of Hadavision, who races for Elite Stables, which employs several trainers. Shuman, who is stabled at Fair Hill Training Center in Maryland, has six of the Elite runners in his barn. He received Hadavision in February.
Sadowski, who manages Elite Stables, took a liking to Hadavision because of her pedigree. Her sire, millionaire Vision and Verse, was a grade II winner and ran second in the Belmont (gr. I) and Travers (gr. I) Stakes. At the time Hadavision was claimed, all four of her older half-siblings had started and three had won, including stakes-placed Stud Poker.
Hadavision was bred in Kentucky by Mary Ann Smith and produced from stakes winner Marquesa Lana. The mare's youngest offspring is a yearling colt by Buddha.
Marquesa Lana was a stakes winner at 2, capturing the Belle Star Stakes. Two of her foals, Tequila Lana and Freedom Isnt Free, each earned $100,000-plus, with Tequila Lana earning close to $180,000.
Hadavision is one of three stakes winners by Vision and Verse, who stood at John Sikura's Hill Ôn' Dale Farms near Lexington when Hadavision was conceived. Vision and Verse was sent to Argentina in 2007.-D.S.
ELITE STABLES gearing up for Breeders Cup weekend
October 24, 2008 – Arcadia, CA - This weekend all eyes will be on Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, CA for the 2008 Breeder’s Cup. This event is the World Series of Thoroughbred Racing and the best horses from around the world will make the trip. ELITE STABLES will be keeping a close eye on the 2 million dollar Ladies Classic as BEAR NOW attempts to score a major upset. If she does it will be a home run for ELITE STABLES . LUCKY MAMA, the 3YO stakes placed filly owned by Elite Stables is a close relative of BEAR NOW. In the breeding shed, a win for BEAR NOW is a win for LUCKY MAMA.
On Saturday 10/25, LUCKY MAMA will have the opportunity to let her own actions speak for her value. She is preparing to take on 11 other horses in an Allowance Race at Philadelphia Park. The six an half furlong race is perfect for her running style.
Three other horses will be running this weekend for ELITE STABLES and they all figure to have a good shot at winning. With the only exception being HOME OF THE GOLD, he has probably seen his best days at the track and he is likely to scratch and be entered in an easier race. Below we have included a the Breeders Cup weekend schedule for BEAR NOW and ELITE STABLES runners.

HADAVISION and LUCKY MAMA come up big at Monmouth
September 15, 2008 – Las Vegas, NV - HADAVISION, the 3YO stakes winning filly, won another stakes race in the 5 furlong TRENTON STAKES on Saturday. The race was originally scheduled for the turf but rain and BIG BROWN and company blazing through the surface in the previous race pushed her race to the main track. She ran a great race and tracked down a horse that earned an easy lead under the guidance of top rider at the meet, Jose Lezcano. The victory was her 2nd stakes win and 3rd stakes placing in only 5 attempts. Her career race record is four wins and two seconds in only nine starts.
LUCKY MAMA, the 3YO daughter of EL CORREDOR established herself as an elite filly by finishing 2nd in the 6 furlong LIGHT HEARTED STAKES on Sunday with Lezcano in the irons. LUCKY MAMA was recently acquired in California from Kentucky Derby winning trainer, Bob Baffert. Her latest triumph follows a dominant victory at Philadelphia Park only 3 weeks before. The last 3 weeks of success for this filly is a great example of the benefits of being stabled at Fairhill Training Center in Maryland under the guidance of Elite Stables top trainer, Mark Shuman. There are so many tracks close by that there is almost always a race to run in.
HADAVISION and LUCKY MAMA have both been entered and accepted for the prestigious November 2nd auction at Keeneland in Lexington, KY. The performance of these fillies at the track have produced nice returns for their owners. It is the responsibility of Elite Stables to run both fillies through the auction and see what price they will bring. HADAVISION will not race between now and the auction. LUCKY MAMA could be entered in another stakes race before the auction. STYLISH CASE and multiple stakes-placed filly, ACINONYX, have also been accepted for the Keeneland auction. There are no shares available at this time in any of the fillies entered in the Keeneland auction. Elite has other rising stars in the stable and shares will be offered soon. Send us an e-mail at info@elitestables.com if you would like to be included on the offer list .
In other weekend news - MOSTLY PEACE, 2YO filly by PEACE RULES, recently acquired from Steve Asmussen trainer of horse of the year CURLIN), followed up her recent victory with a good effort on Sunday at Delaware Park in her first start against winners. She just missed 3rd place and put in a really good effort.
Hadavision back at proven distance

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Trainer Mark Shuman will stretch out Hadavision for the $70,000 Mongo Queen Stakes at six furlongs for 3-year-old fillies Sunday at Monmouth Park.
Hadavision finished in a dead heat for second, losing by only a neck to Grand Obsession, in her most recent outing, the $100,000 Lady Charles Town Stakes at 4 1/2 furlongs on June 21.
"She ran very well there," Shuman said. "I think it was a little shorter than she wanted to go. The winner came three wide to nip her. She's pretty game and usually doesn't let anyone pass her. I don't think she saw the other horse coming. That wasn't her best spot. I think she'll be better going three-quarters of a mile."
Hadavision came out of the race in good shape, Shuman said, adding, "and soon as she did, we started pointing to this race."
This race marks a return to the distance at which Hadavision won the Peach Blossom Stakes at Delaware Park in mid-April.
The Peach Blossom was the first start for Shuman by the well-traveled filly. She was claimed for $30,000 from her winning debut in June 2007 at Churchill Downs and sent to Del Mar, where she got a second and a fourth in starter allowance races. She then came back East for an allowance win at Presque Isle Down in September.
That was the final race of the campaign and her owner, Elite Stables, transferred her to Shuman over the winter. He got a filly with demonstrated ability on both coasts, producing wins on dirt and synthetic tracks.
"She's all racehorse," Shuman said. "I've worked her with nice horses and she always beats them. No matter how fast or slow, she does what it takes to get there. Look at her past performances. She's there every time."
Hadavision, with Stewart Elliott aboard, faces six rivals in the competitive field.
HADAVISION and LUCKY MAMA impress, just miss major scores
June 24,2008 - HADAVISION earned another stakes placing on June 21 at Charlestown Race and Slots in the $100,000 Lady Charlestown. She overcame a horrible trip, to put in an eye catching move and earned an impressive 2nd place finish, missing all of the money by only a neck when the wire came too soon while she was still closing ground. Her owners and investors shared over $15,000 as a result of her efforts. The performance adds to her already impressive resume and once again proves her versatillity. She has finished 1st or 2nd in 5 of 6 starts at distances ranging from 4½ to 6 furlongs on surfaces ranging from polytrack to dirt at large and small tracks alike.
LUCKY MAMA, the 3YO daughter of EL CORREDOR, recently acquired from Kentucky Derby winning trainer Bob Baffert, scored a hard trying 4th place finish in her stakes debut at Delaware Park on June 23rd. She missed the break and then blew by a $300,000 and $100,000 horse to just miss 3rd place money and black type prestige by a neck. The $60,000 Keeneland September 2006 purchase bred by Michael Pegram, figures to be a major a player in the upcoming 3YO filly stakes races in the Mid-Atlantic.

JUMP TO HADAVISION
Together, Sumptuous and Lady Chace give trainer Todd Pletcher a tactically balanced duo for the $70,000 Dearly Precious Stakes on Saturday at Monmouth Park.
The six-furlong race drew nine 3-year-old fillies.
Lady Chace has plenty of early speed. She won her maiden at first asking here last summer, pulling away to a 10 3/4-length victory.
Stamina has been an issue in her stakes races. Most recently, Lady Chace overcame a stumble at the break to grab the lead in an overnight stakes at Belmont Park before tiring to finish fifth.
David Cohen will ride.
Sumptuous, on the other hand, likes to make her run from midpack. That strategy almost paid off in Monmouth's Just Smashing Stakes at 5 1/2 furlongs on May 17 as she rallied to miss by only a half-length.
"She got blocked and had to come around the field," said assistant trainer Anthony Sciametta. "I think she should have won."
Jose Lezcano has the return call. The two Pletcher fillies race uncoupled in the wagering.
Hadavision is an in-demand filly who would be a major factor if she runs in this spot. Trainer Mark Shuman entered her in two other stakes: The $100,000 Lady Charles Town, 4 1/2 furlongs at Charles Town on Saturday night and the $55,000 Beautiful Day, six furlongs at Delaware Park on Monday.
"It does look like we'll be running at Monmouth," Shuman said. "I'm not sure 4 1/2 furlongs is her best distance. We'll take a look at the past performances and decide."
In her only start for Shuman, Hadavision won the Peach Blossom Stakes at Delaware on April 19.
"She's a nice filly who seems to be moving forward," Shuman said.
Stewart Elliott will ride.
Bill Mott and Nick Zito, a pair of Hall of Fame trainers, will have runners in the Dearly Precious.
Mott is sending out J Z Warrior, third by 9 1/2 lengths behind Zaftig last time out in the Grade 3 Nassau County Stakes at Belmont Park. This will be the fourth straight stakes appearance for the filly, who has hit the board in 5 of 6 starts.
Zito has Overandabeauty, who overcame a stumble at the break to get third in Belmont's Pearl City Stakes on May 24.
The $60,000 Anderson Fowler Stakes, the scheduled supporting stakes Saturday, did not fill. The race office will bring the race for 3-year-old grass sprinters back for Sunday.
Competition for horses an issue
Stakes conflicts are a continuing issue throughout the region, with too many tracks chasing the same horses. The situation with Hadavision, where she wound up entered in three different stakes in a three-day span, underscored the problem.
"The whole stakes schedule in the Mid-Atlantic needs to be revamped," Shuman said. "The tracks need to get together and work this out, especially when we have such a shortage of horses. Everybody says they want to do something about it, but nothing happens."
* Monmouth's popular Dawn Patrol backstretch will resume June 27 and be held Fridays and Saturdays through Aug. 30. The tram tour through the stable area is free, and guests are treated to coffee, juice, and pastries. Reservations are available at (732) 571-5542.
ACINONYX adds to Resume - June 6. 2008
June 6, 2008, Baltimore, MD - Add a stakes placing in the Whimsical Stakes, at Pimlico Race Course to the already impressive resume of ACINONYX. ACINONYX has finished in the money in 4 of her last 5 starts. After her latest accomplishment, she now is a filly with two career stakes places in only two attempts.
The future sure looks bright for ACINONYX and the folks that have decided to participate in the ACINONYX partnership. Before her first expense payment became due, ACINONYX produced income for the members of the partnership. She came out of the race good and will be entered in another race as soon as she is ready.
It’s not too often that you see the owners of a proven stakes horse accepting investors or racing partnerships returning profits before expense payments are due. We are proud of ACINONYX and the people that believe in this wonderful filly!
Congrats to ACINONYX and the members of her partnership!
“A Profitable Three Minutes”
ELITE STABLES experienced a dizzying and profitable three minutes on Memorial Day afternoon when two ELITE runners carrying the familiar black-and-red silks made their partners happy with productive outings at East Coast tracks.
Tocqueville went first by leaving the Pimlico Race Course starting gate at 2:06 Eastern, and then ELITE WILDCAT quickly followed when busting out of the Delaware Park gate at 2:09.
First, the good news.
Although TOCQUEVILLE did not get the best of trips when finishing seventh as the favorite, the 5-year-old gelding was taken home by new owners when being claimed out of the race for $25,000. Thus the final chapter was written in the happy TOCQUEVILLE saga, which began after ELITE claimed him on June 1, 2007, for $15,000 at Churchill Downs. In his 11 starts for ELITE, TOCQUEVILLE registered three wins, two seconds, two thirds, and two fourths, for earnings of $74,070. Throw in the $10,000 profit that the stable netted on the exchange of claims, and there can be little doubt TOCQUEVILLE was an unqualified success for ELITE! Racing manager Gary Sadowski said the fact TOCQUEVILLE is no longer part of the stable is “a little sad, but after all this is a business, and they’re not pets. We had a terrific run and a whole lot of fun with TOCQUEVILLE.”
Second, the great news!
ELITE WILDCAT, trained by Mark Shuman, led every step of the way in making his turf debut Monday at Delaware. With jockey Ramon Dominguez aboard, the 3-year-old gelding won the maiden special-weight race by a comfortable length. From a total purse of $41,860, ELITE WILDCAT earned $24,000 after finishing five furlongs in 58.67 seconds over firm going.
Shuman said he was “extremely pleased” with the progress that ELITE WILDCAT has made in recent months.
Purchased at auction by ELITE for just $25,000 a little more than a year ago, ELITE WILDCAT now has a victory to go with two previous second-place finishes, for total earnings of $33,990. Perhaps most importantly, considering the improvement the gelding has shown in virtually every start – his Beyer Speed Figures in his last four starts, ending with his Monday victory, were 45, 54, 67, and 73 – he has considerable upside, with all of his post-maiden conditions still ahead of him. Shuman said that although ELITE WILDCAT had “made great strides” in prior races on dirt, “the way he won on the grass confirms my belief that he would be even better after switching surfaces. He’s an exciting prospect for us.”
ACININYX Comes Up Big - May 21, 2008
Saturday, May 17, was a memorable day for ELITE STABLES. Performing before a Preakness crowd of more than 112,000 at Pimlico Race Course, the 4-year-old filly, ACINONYX, earned black type by finishing third in the $65,000 Skipat Stakes.
Rating in fourth for most of the six-furlong journey under jockey Ramon Dominguez, ACINONYX moved up steadily before settling for third, beaten less than three lengths by the victorious Akronism.
“She was gaining with every stride,” said Dominguez later told the filly’s trainer, Mark Shuman.
The race was the third for ACINONYX since ELITE STABLES claimed her for just $12,500 in February. The chestnut filly also has finished second in an allowance race since the claim. Asked how he believed Acinonyx would fare against starter-allowance company – for which the filly will be eligible for quite some time – Dominguez could only laugh confidently.
Meanwhile, Preakness weekend could have been even better for ELITE STABLES, except for a spot of bad luck. One of the stable’s stars, HADAVISION, was entered in the Miss Preakness Stakes on May 16 at Pimlico but had to be scratched after scraping against her stall. “Her hock swelled up just a little bit,” said Shuman. “It was one of those things. It’s unfortunate, because the filly was doing absolutely super and I thought we were in a really good situation with her. We’ll regroup and hopefully get her back in another good spot.”
HADAVISION, claimed for $30,000 last June, already is a stakes winner, having captured the $100,000 Peach Blossom at Delaware Park on April 19 in her last start. The 3-year-old filly, by Vision and Verse, is based at the Fair Hill training center in northeastern Maryland.
Also at Pimlico, where ELITE STABLES hosted a well-attended catered-suite party on Preakness weekend, graciously sponsored by youfellowship.com, ELITE WILDCAT turned in a highly creditable effort when finishing second in maiden-special company on May 16. A 3-year-old gelding by Forest Wildcat, the Kentucky-bred has improved steadily in five career starts and appears ready to break into the win column. Shuman recently assumed his training.
In developments elsewhere over the weekend, SWEET ROSEMAN scored immediately off the ELITE STABLES claim when winning the second race Sunday at Hollywood Park. SWEET ROSEMAN, a 3-year-old Drewman filly, was competing for a $25,000 claiming price after being claimed for $20,000 from her previous start.
ELITE STABLES Preakness Stakes Weekend
According to ESPN, horse racing has over 20 million fans that follow the sport and most everyday fans are males over the age of 30. On major racing days all types of people watch this glorious sport. There are races run almost every day of the year, from dozens of tracks, coast to coast. Horse racing has two 24 hour cable channels, TVG and HRTV, that cover the sport all year long. ESPN and NBC carry horse racing at various times throughout the year. Most of the more than 20 million fans watch the races from local off track betting areas. Over 100,000 people will turn out to see the races live. In addition, 7.2 million homes tuned in to the Preakness in 2007. ESPN and NBC will televise the Preakness.
ELITE STABLES will be bringing 3 year old Stakes-winning filly, HADAVISION to Baltimore to compete in the Grade 3 Miss Preakness Stakes on Friday the 16th. HADAVISION recently won the Peach Blossom Stakes at Delaware Park. HADAVISION has 3 victories over 3 different tracks in 5 lifetime starts. The well traveled filly has made starts at Del Mar, California, Churchill Downs, Presque Isle (Pennsylvania) and Delaware. The 4 year old filly, ACINONYX is pointed for the Skipat Stakes that follow the Preakness Stakes. Four other horses, Tocqueville, ELITE Wildcat, Out of my Way and Cee My Tizzy Run, are pointing for races between May 15th and May 17th at Pimlico for ELITE STABLES.
The Preakness weekend focus will be on Kentucky Derby (Louisville, KY) winner, Big Brown. Big Brown, Trainer Richard Dutrow Jr., Jockey Kent Desormeaux and IEAH Racing Stables are trying to capture the Triple Crown. His performance in the Derby over filly Eight Belles and the rest of the 3 year olds was dominant and carved his place in history next to 2007 Derby winner Street Sense. At the Preakness he will attempt to match the 2007 performance of Curlin. If he can achieve that feat, then he would likely point for the Belmont Stakes (Elmont, New York) and try to match the 2007 performance of Rags to Riches.
Sponsorship in thoroughbred racing is becoming very common. Many companies sponsor thoroughbred races, trainers, jockeys, even owners are seen with sponsors' logos. On May 3rd the Kentucky Derby NetJets sponsored all of the jockeys and UPS sponsored the Kentucky Derby and the winner Big Brown. Other notable thoroughbred sponsors are VISA, Dodge, John Deere, Emirates Airlines, CITGO, Grey Goose and YUM Brands.
